Assault Investigation

Submitted by Sheriff Scott K. Lindsey

On the evening of Dec. 3, Texas County deputies responded to a residence on Hwy. 63, near Cabool for a report of an assault with a vehicle. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered that a verbal dispute had taken place between two male subjects. The verbal dispute escalated into a reported assault with one of subjects striking the other with a motor vehicle. The victim was transported to Texas County Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as William C. Cash, 36, of West Plains. Cash was located in Mansfield by the Wright County Sheriff’s Department. Cash and a female passenger were taken into custody for questioning. Cash admitted to operating the vehicle and striking the other male. Cash also admitted to using methamphetamine prior to the incident.
Texas County Prosecuting Attorney Parke Stevens charged Cash with assault first degree, armed criminal action, driving while intoxicated, driving while revoked, leaving the scene of an accident, property damage first degree. Cash was ordered to be held without bond.
The Texas County Sheriff’s Department was assisted in the investigation by the Cabool Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Wright County Sheriff’s Department. The above charges are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
