John T. Long entered a plea of guilty on Dec. 4 and was sentenced to 7 years in the Mo. Dept. of Corrections to be served current with other sentences. Long was also ordered to pay restitution of $15,538.71 and all court costs.
Long walked off from a work assignment on Jan. 25 at the SCCC recycling center. Search teams covered the Licking area for several days, consisting of the Licking Police Department, the Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Mo. State Highway Patrol, and the Department of Corrections K9 search teams from the Farmington and Ozarks Correctional Centers.
At the time of the escape, Long was serving two concurrent 6-year sentences for receiving stolen property and second-degree burglary. On Feb. 3, Corporal Pat Burton (now Chief Burton) of the Licking Police Department captured Long single-handedly after receiving a call about a sighting of the escaped prisoner.
