Senior Center Happenings

By Cynthia Wampner I hope everyone had a merry Christmas, and now it's time to bring in the New Year. No New Year’s resolution for me, I'm just gonna be the same ole person I was last year, why not? I made it to 2018 this way. Start the new year off right, and enjoy our new recreation room, here at the center. Exercise equipment is available, ping pong, Canadian marbles, pool, puzzles, cards and shuffleboard. This is all free for you to use anytime while we are open for business. Everything seems to be going good at the senior ...

By Cynthia Wampner What a week. I know a lot of people who have been affected by this influenza, myself for one. Believe me, it's not been fun. Well, in spite of the flu, we have been blessed with fairly good weather, with Christmas being less than a week away. I would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and be safe in whatever you do. Please don't forget that Jesus is the reason for the season. We have decided to close on December 26, which is the day after Christmas. We will be back open on December ...

By Cynthia Wampner It's hard to believe that old man winter is right around the corner, as well is Christmas just 21 days away. Where has time gone? I guess we're just so busy, I have always heard that when you’re having fun, time flies. And yes we are having fun. Stop by and have breakfast or lunch with us and look at all the new Christmas decorations. Meri Wrest is hard at work making the center look nice for the upcoming Christmas party, which will be held on Saturday December 9 at 12 p.m. Hope to see all of ...

By Cynthia Wampner I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving. I was told to set the scales back 10 pounds before you eat, and you wouldn't feel bad when you step on after you eat. If there is anything in the old building that you would like to buy for a keepsake, you could come and take a look. As soon as the things that are out that are not attached, we will take bids to tear down the old building. You can call Cindy at 573-674-3558 or come and see me at 114 Green Street. Make sure you come ...

By: Cindy Wampner The first meal in the new Licking Senior Center was prepared by Marilyn Cantrell and Rickie Moncrief on Monday, November 13th. They both were thrilled to be the first cooks in the new kitchen. We all have been getting plenty of exercise, looking for utensils or pots and pans, etc. Then on Friday the 17th, the new shuffleboard table donated by Carol Fox of Fox Funeral home was delivered and put up ready to be played. Hours later, Mayor Keith Cantrell and wife Marilyn delivered a new ping-pong table. We are surely blessed to have such caring ...

By: Marie Lasater On Saturday, November 11th, after 19 months of construction, the new Bridge Builder’s Senior Center building opened its doors to the public, with 188 people signing the guest register. Construction on the project began on April 4, 2016. Thanks to local tradesmen, community members, and literally dozens of fundraising ideas by center Director Cindy Wampner, Licking now has a first class, modern facility, encompassing 5000 square feet.  Perhaps most importantly, the building has been completed on a “pay as you go” basis, using no taxpayer money and incurring no debt. During a small ceremony held at the ...

By Cynthia Wampner Well I don't have a whole lot to report, because I was away 4 days to a conference. The conference took place in Camdenton, Mo. at the Old Kinderhook Lodge. Health and transportation were the big topics. No more conferences until next year. Yeah. The carpet for the new building has not arrived yet, but hopefully next week it will find its way to Licking, Mo. Meri Wrest is still decorating in the dining room this week, and is doing a fantastic job. I saw some new exit signs installed, thanks to Lonnie Ward and Frank Steward ...
