Schwartz charged with unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest

According to the Probable Cause Statement filed by Texas County Sheriff’s Deputy Shane Jones and released by Texas County Prosecuting Attorney Parke J. Stevens Jr., on April 9, 2017, an anonymous caller called the Texas County Sheriff’s officer stating that there was a man walking with a gun and that he had fired a round. The caller stated that they believed the man in question was Amish and was John SK Schwartz, of 13993 Buffalo Road in Licking.

Officer Jones and several other officers responded to the call. They were told the suspect had traveled into the woods behind the caller’s house. Jones and the other law enforcement had traveled approximately 1000 yards into the woods calling Mr. Schwartz’s name when they heard a voice ask, “Are you looking for me?”

The officers directed the man to come out from the trees and to show his hands. He responded, “Shoot me. You want to kill me, do it.”

The suspect refused to comply when ordered to the ground. A deputy then ran and knocked the suspect to the ground. The suspect refused to comply with orders to release his hands and pressure tactics had to be applied before they could get hand restraints on the suspect.

The suspect, who was intoxicated, was then transported to Texas County Jail without further incident. The suspect was identified as John Schwartz, 34, of Buffalo Road, Licking. He was held on $750,000.00 Bond.
