The descendants of James Addison and Sarah Ann (Bradford) Bates held their annual Family Reunion on June 24, 2017 at the Community Room at Fox Fire House, Licking, Missouri. The doors opened at 10:00 a.m. & family began to gather to visit & enjoy the day. We had 46 people signing the guest book this year.
The tables were loaded down with wonderful food. At noon a blessing was said and there was a moment of silence for those we have lost this past year: Theresa Bates, daughter Shirley Ann (Quinn) & Charles Leroy Bates, Senior, & Granddaughter of Virgil Bates. Dona (Bates) Geer daughter of Adam & Leota Bates; Juanita Hamlin Bates married to Clarence Bates, son of Allie Baxter Bates & Ettie May Brandon Bates; Helen Bates, wife of Lee Bates son of Frank & Elizabeth Bates.
We had door prizes in between eating & visiting. There was also a silent auction again this year, with many wonderful baskets & items to bid on. Lori and Jackie, thank you for the money raised from this and the bucket being passed around, this helps with expenses for the reunion. We mailed out over 150 newsletters this year.
Our oldest blood relative attending was Kenneth Bates at 73 years young. He received a button flower arrangement made from old family buttons. The youngest blood relative attending was Kinslee Beasley, age 3, who received a cuddly teddy bear. The couple married the longest, 53 years, was Glenda (Bates) & Joe Castrop. They received an embroidered table runner and tablecloth. The couple married the least amount of time was Dennis & Melissa (Bates) Beasley, 11 years. They received a beautiful picture frame. The people who traveled the farthest were Kimberly Bates, Ruthie Bates & Alice Bates from Edmond, Oklahoma, and they received cash. Betty Bates made a beautiful quilt & it was won by Kim Bates.
