LOLA MARIE BROWN

Lola Marie Brown, longtime resident of Licking, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018 in Bakersfield, CA.

Lola was born August 28, 1920 in Washington to William H ‘Paddy’ and Bertha (Rusk) Smith. She was raised in Douglas Co, MO. Her family moved to Kern Co, CA in the late 1930’s, settling in Fellows before moving on to Bakersfield.

She married Floyd Wilson in 1937 and had 2 sons, Alan and Charles (Chuck).

She married William ‘Lory’ Brown in 1946. They divorced several years later, each going their separate ways. After many years, they reunited and remarried in 1978.

She helped Lory in his upholstery business for many years. She was very involved with and served as president of the Bridge Builders of Licking. They moved back to California about 1989 to be near family.

Before her eyesight failed, Lola enjoyed reading and also spent countless hours crocheting blankets for the family. She was a die-hard Dodger fan (Lory was a Cardinal fan) and enjoyed Nascar. She was a great cook…her pies were unbeatable.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lory in 2002; son Alan Wilson in 2014; sisters Alice and Blanche; brother Lester, stepdaughter Patricia Kelly; and step-grandsons David Osborn and Erik Herndon.

She is survived by her son Chuck Wilson of Bakersfield, CA; stepson Bill Brown of Nixa, MO; stepdaughter Sherry Gillespie of Nixa, MO; sister Amy Crowder of Bakersfield, CA; 6 grandchildren: Kim, Todd, Sauni, Monique, Carrie and Amy; 18 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren: Mark, Tara and India; 11 step great grandchildren, 2 step great-great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

At her request, no services were held. Doughty-Calhoun-O’Meara Funeral Home in Bakersfield was in charge of arrangements.
