Shirley Ann Cox, age 66, daughter of Herschel and Hazel “Kathleen” (Tipton) Martin was born August 14, 1950 in Twin Falls, Idaho. She passed away on May 10, 2017 in Houston, MO.
Shirley grew up in the Pleasant Grove Community, attending the one room Pleasant Grove School and graduating from Cabool High School. She always loved this area and even though they left a few times her heart was always there.
Shirley worked as a CNA, CMT and finally in Medical Records at Kabul Nursing Home.
She married Larry Cox on August 2, 1972 and they enjoyed 37 years together before he died in 2009.
She was also preceded in death by her father and a brother Phillip Jones.
She is survived by her mother, her daughter Juli Oravec and husband John, son Craig Cox and wife Lori, and daughter Nicole Stilley and husband Eddie; four brothers, Kenneth Martin, David Martin, Marlin Martin and Kevin Martin; two sisters, Gail Martin and Kelli Martin; six grandchildren, Kayla Adams, Clay Cox, Trey Oravec, Trevor Oravec, Cody Stilley and Maycee Stilley; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends made throughout the years.
Shirley had a huge heart. Her home was your home and you always felt comfortable enough to come in sit, talk and relax. Once with Shirley you could be certain she would be reminiscing about days gone by, the good and hard times and the funny ones. She helped many people by giving of herself, whether it was time, money, advice or the shirt off her back. She loved reading her Bible.
In her younger days she loved to go camping, grow a vegetable garden and flowers, sharing the fruit of her labor with family and friends.
One activity at the top of her list was being a Grandmother and spending time with her wonderful grandchildren and family. Nothing was better than that.
Shirley was a wonderful lady, always aware of those around her and their needs, she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Memorial Graveside service was held Saturday May 13, 2017, at 11:00 AM in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Cabool, MO with Marlin Martin and Nathan Christeson officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to: Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Easter Seals or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Services were directed by Evans Funeral Home, Houston, MO.
