Submitted by Steven Rissler

The JV Lady Cats competed in the Norwood tourney during the first week of December. The girls were seeded eighth as the only JV competing in the varsity level tournament. The first opponent up was the number one seeded Willow Springs Lady Bears. Licking came out swinging, behind three’s from Kasey Richards and Tori Porter to take an early lead and force two early timeouts from Willow. The girls continued to scrap and were only down 17-12 to the top seed after the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Willow use full court pressure to force double-digit turnovers by the Lady Cats. The Lady Bears scored 6 points in the final 20 seconds of the quarter to push the halftime lead to 43-23. The turnover problems continued as Willow Springs continued to pull away. Licking struggled to ever get back in rhythm offensively and lost 72-33.
Richards led with 12 points and Tori Porter added 11. Tomi Rose tallied 7 rebounds.
The second round matched the Lady Cats vs. the home team Lady Pirates of Norwood. Licking would again hang tough early, trailing 13-11 after one quarter.
Both teams would score 11 points in the second, and the eighth seeded Lady Cats went to halftime down 24-22.
The third quarter was rough on the girls as Norwood would outscore them 20-3 to pull away.
Licking compounded poor defense with bad shooting going 5/21 from the free throw to fall 60-32. Kasey Richards led with 10 points, Tomi Rose chipped in 5 points and 7 boards, and Bailie Joyner added 6 points and 5 boards.
The seventh place game pitted the SWMO Rush home school team against the Lady Cats. Licking came out roaring, scoring 17 points in the first quarter behind 11 from Kasey Richards. Licking led 17-2 after 1 quarter.
The Lady Cats continued to put pressure on the Rush, winning the second quarter 16-9 to take a 33-11 score into the intermission.
Licking kept the hammer down in the third, tallying 17 more points to extend the lead to 50-23 after three quarters.
