Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship

The Knights of
Columbus will be hosting a Free Throw Championship this Sunday, Dec. 13 at the
Licking FEMA gym for boys and girls ages nine – fourteen. Sign up begins at 12
– 1 p.m. and the competition starts at 1 p.m. The KOC welcomes all kids between
the ages of nine and fourteen to join the fun regardless of where you attend
school.
The Knights of
Columbus Council #12650 has been locally hosting the Free Throw Championship
for the past seven years. The local winners move on to district level, which is
held in Willow Springs, and then advance to regional level, with competitions
held at Springfield Catholic High School. State competitions are held at Fr.
Tolton Catholic High School in Columbia.
The competition
consists of 6 classes for girls and 6 classes for boys, with one winner for
each class. The younger age brackets compete at a twelve-foot free throw line
with the older age brackets competing at a fifteen-foot free throw line. Each
participant is given three free throw practice shots before shooting the
competition 15 shots. Ties will be broken by shoot offs, with one winner being
named for each class. Each participant at the local level in Licking will
receive a certificate of participation, with top winner also receiving a
certificate and trophy. District level winners receive a medallion, regional
winners receive a plaque and state winners first and second place will receive
a trophy.
The KOC encourages
the kids’ involvement with this free fun event.
