Lady ‘Cats Lose Big Cat Classic

Submitted by Steven Rissler
Licking made the short trip east to Salem for a Friday night matchup with the high scoring Lady Tigers. Licking would be without the services of All State Guard Karlee Holland due to a knee injury from the game the previous night with Newburg. Salem came out amped out and stormed to an 8-0 lead in the first three possessions. The Lady ‘Cats were able to settle down and eventually claw their way back to a tie before a late Salem run pushed the lead to 22-15 after one quarter.  The second quarter was a grinder as Licking battled a motivated Lady Tiger team and a rowdy Salem crowd to squeak out a 10-9 advantage and go to halftime 25-31. The third quarter saw Salem’s Madison Wolf hit back-to-back three’s from the left wing to extend the lead to double digits. Lexi Hadix made two three’s of her own for Licking but the Lady Cats were now down 39-51. Salem went into delay game in the fourth quarter and the final score was Salem 57, Licking 42.
Licking was led by Lexi Hadix with 11 points, 4 rebounds, followed by Kiley Ingram 10 points, 5 rebs, 3 steals; Kylie Taylor 6 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots; Abby Moncrief 6 points, 5 rebounds; Anna Sullins 4 points, 7 rebounds; Lainy Hadix 3 points; and Athena Hood 2 points. Winter Murray, Kasey Rae Richards and Tomi Rose all tallied 1 rebound.
“The short turn-around from Thursday to Friday didn’t give us much time to prepare a game plan that didn’t include Karlee. The aggressive, hostile environment really got under my skin and shook the girls. We will have this date circled on the calendar for next season.” Coach Rissler
