Leta Marie Forbes

Leta Marie Forbes, age 84, passed away Thursday February 14, 2019 at Houston House in Houston, Mo. She was born May 5, 1934 to Grover C and Artie (Felton) Smith in Gamaliel, Ark.
After graduation from Houston High School, Leta went to work at the courthouse. During that time she met the love of her life, James Clay Forbes. They were married on January 29, 1956 and were blessed with one child, James Markus. After Clay graduated from pharmacy school in 1961 they moved back to Houston. They worked side by side in the family business, Forbes Pharmacy, for 30 years before she retired.
Leta and Clay loved traveling and going to the lake fishing with friends and family. In her spare time she enjoyed playing bridge and shopping. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Houston. She loved kids and enjoyed teaching children’s Sunday school when she was younger.
Leta was lovingly known as “Plink” or “Aunt Plink” by her Smith family. Her house was the one everyone gathered at. Whether it was a July 4th parade in the yard, Christmas, or “just because”, there was always fun had by all.
Leta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clay; son, Mark; sisters, Mary Lou Cook and Harold and June Dawson and Verl; brothers, Bob Smith and Alfred C Smith. She is survived by her sister, Sonya Cunningham; sisters-in-law, Joyce Smith and Judy Smith; several nieces and nephews and their families; David and Sarah Warren; daughter-in-law, Jodie Forbes; 3 step-grandchildren; and step great-grandchildren.
Leta’s passing leaves a huge hole in our hearts, but we rejoice knowing she is enjoying being reunited with her loved ones and friends in heaven. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
