In response to a referral from the Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division, the Texas County Sheriff’s office initiated an investigation for allegations of statutory rape.
During the investigation, a 16-year-old female was identified as the alleged victim. The suspect was identified as Samuel W. Thomas, age 35. Thomas was interviewed and admitted to engaging in sexual intercourse with the victim. Thomas was arrested and incarcerated in the Texas County Jail.
Samuel W. Thomas, of Bucyrus, was charged by Prosecuting Attorney Parke Stevens with statutory rape second degree.  Thomas was held in the Texas County jail pending bond of $200,000.
The above charges are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
