The LHS girls’ basketball team had a grand send-off Saturday morning as they departed for the Mo. Class 3 quarter-final game. Saxony Lutheran High School (Jackson), their last obstacle to the Final Four, awaited them at the Farmington Community Civic Center.
The team’s lofty dreams of success were symbolized by the balloons they released before boarding the bus. A season of hard work, sweat, triumphs and tears, preceded by years of accumulating skills and building a drive to be their best, had culminated in earning a position as one of the eight best Class 3 teams in the state. The Lady ‘Cats were determined not to let this opportunity to advance to the Final Four escape them.

Fans cheer the Lady ‘Cats on their way Saturday morning.

The Booster Club organized the fans, who lined College Street with signs and shouts of encouragement, to send off the girls in style. The excitement was evident in the players’ faces as they waved in return to their supporters. The Licking Police Department provided an escort for the bus.
Many fans, despite the two-hour drive over curvy roads to reach the game, attended the game and they were not disappointed. The lead transferred back and forth during the game, as the momentum swung from one team to the other. The end of regulation time found the score tied at 54, but the tide turned Licking’s direction in overtime, and the Lady ‘Cats persevered, 65-57 over the Crusaders.
