Vet Science Team 6th in state

LHS Veterinary Science Team placed 6th in state during Missouri’s first Vet Science contest. Justin Leyburn was the 9th highest individual in the state. The team of Leyburn, Alyssa Cooper, Clifford Hawn and Vail Smith combined to place 6th in the state.
The contest was Feb. 15 at Crowder College in Neosho. The program defined the purpose of the veterinary science career development event was to promote college and career readiness by providing students with opportunities to develop technical knowledge and demonstrate practical skills in the field of veterinary science.
Participants were assessed on their ability to demonstrate professional ethics, decision-making, business competency, communication and problem-solving skills. Technical competencies were also assessed, with small and large animals in the area of: anatomy and physiology, clinical procedures, identification health and safety, medical terminology, and veterinary math applications,
Teams were required to have four members, and all members’ scores counted toward the total team score. The four members of the LHS team represented the school and community well at the contest.
