Licking Tennis

The Licking Tennis team opened their season over spring break, traveling to Richland on March 21 to face a very strong team composed of seniors and juniors. The Wildcats were not able to defeat the Richland Bears but we did put up a good fight. Aubrie Stephens and Ashley Creek did fantastic in their doubles match. It was a close 6-8 match, even though they couldn’t pull out the victory.
Next the Wildcats hosted Mtn. Grove on March 25. The Wildcats were not able to win against the Panthers but once again showed a lot of heart. We were missing some varsity experience and Winter Murray had to step up and compete. Winter Murray and Kimrey Krewson in doubles lost in a close 7-4 tiebreaker. Winter Murray won her singles match, also through a tiebreaker, in a close 7-5 victory.  Great job Winter!
In our last match, we traveled to Springfield on a cold and windy evening March 29. After a little work drying off the courts, we were able to compete against a very good Forsyth varsity team. I was also very proud of our effort, but the match was taken by Forsyth. Landen Hock stepped up and was able to get some experience playing a JV singles and double match. Landen Hock and Tristen Melton won a JV doubles match 6-4.
The Licking team this year is composed of senior Richelle Schwarz; junior Ashley Creek; sophomores Aubrie Stephens, Kimrey Krewson, Tristen Melton and Sam Sullins and freshmen Landen Hock, Winter Murray, Breanna Garrett and Cadrian Hutsell. We are a young team, but we will be getting much needed experience this year for our underclassmen. We have a very large group of freshmen. I will expect a lot of team leadership from Richelle and Ashley, our upperclassmen. Our sophomores of Aubrie, Tristen, Sam and Kimrey will be the backbone we will build around the next couple of years. I’m also excited to see all the freshmen continue to grow. Our schedule for April is very busy and there will be multiple games coming up in the next few weeks. We return home April 11 against Salem.
