35th Annual Licking PRCA Rodeo

By Shari Harris,

Graduation is over, now it’s Rodeo Time! Thursday, May 30 through Saturday, June 1, don’t miss the fun at the Licking Rodeo Grounds.
The gates open at 5:30, and mutton bustin’ for ages 8 and under starts things off at 6:15 p.m. each evening. Registration for mutton bustin’ sign up is from 5:30 to 6:00. Don’t be late!
Thursday is free admission for kids 11 and under, and don’t miss the large screen TV giveaway sponsored by Rinne’s Tire Pro. The Licking FFA Tug-of-War is that night as well.
Friday night is military night, with special recognition of our military. A goat scramble for kids 5 and under will also be a don’t-miss event.
Saturday activities go all day long, beginning downtown with booths and activities. Food items this year include baked goods, kettle corn, pork rinds, pulled pork sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken strips, blooming onions, funnel cakes, nachos, corn dogs, fried pickles, snowcones, lemonade, and more.
Art and craft booths will vend wood items, barbed-wire crafts, signs and glass painting, jewelry and crocheted items, paintings, pottery, homemade lye soap, wood burning, lariat baskets, gourds, and other wood crafts.
The kids won’t want to miss the live pony rides and bounce houses. Cloggers will perform in front of City Hall from 10:30 to 11:00, and Keith Bradshaw and Band will follow them, from 11:30 to 1:00.
T-shirts and hoodies will be for sale, and if you like raffles, this is your venue. Raffle tickets will be sold in several places, with guns, quilts, and a pig all available.
Information booths for real estate and political parties will also be set up.
The rodeo parade will pass through downtown at 2 p.m., so don’t miss this part of the day.
Head over to the rodeo grounds any time after 5:30, and don’t be afraid to wear your pink. Yes, Saturday is pink night at the rodeo. A calf scramble for ages 6-11 will be a must-see. Cable America is giving away a large screen TV (in case you didn’t win the TV Thursday night, or even if you did!)
Come and join the fun, rain or shine. Buy your tickets in advance, adults for $12 and kids 6-11 for $6, at City Hall and JL Friend Lumber Co. Or pay at the gate, adults $15 and kids $7, when you get there. You’re bound to have a good time!
