LICKING POLICE DEPARTMENT

K9 Unit
Submitted by Chief Pat Burton

On May 3, Cpl. Brian Allgire and K9 Loki returned from the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) workshop in Eureka. During the workshop Cpl.. Allgire and Loki certified as a team in narcotics detection and spent the week training.

Since being certified, the team has had multiple deployments resulting in drug arrests.

May 10, a traffic stop was conducted for equipment violation. The team was requested to respond to the traffic stop for a deployment. Loki was deployed and gave indication of the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle was initiated and as a result of the search, marijuana was located inside the vehicle. The driver, Dennis Loughridge, 30, of Salem, was cited for possession of marijuana and arrested for driving while intoxicated-drug intoxication.

May 12, a Licking officer was requested to respond to South Central Correctional Center, in reference to possible drug activities. Upon their arrival, they spoke with Jamie Carton, 28, Linn Creek, who was identified as the suspect attempting to bring narcotics into the facility. Loki was deployed and gave indication of the presence of narcotics around the suspect’s vehicle. A search of the vehicle was initiated and as a result of the search, marijuana was located inside the vehicle as well as on Carton. Carton was arrested and transported to the Texas County Jail where she was held on a twenty-four hour hold, pending the application of an arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance into a prison.

May 12, a traffic stop was conducted for registration violation. The team was requested to respond to the traffic stop for a deployment. Loki was deployed and gave indication of the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle was initiated and as a result of the search, marijuana and illegal drug paraphernalia were located inside the vehicle. The driver, Brandon Giller, 24, of Licking, was cited for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. A passenger of the vehicle, Candace Jones, was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant and transported to the Texas County Jail.

The K9 unit is an amazing resource to have in our department and our community. Loki aids the officers in finding probable cause and helps in deterring illegal drug activities due to his presence. I believe Cpl. Allgire and Loki are a great match and will be very productive over the years to come.

All above information is just a mere accusation, and is not evidence of guilt.  Evidence in support of any charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
