Arson/stolen vehicle

Submitted by Sheriff Scott K. Lindsey

On June 17, Texas County deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle and arson fire on Mt. Olive Rd. in the Clear Springs area. Upon arrival a male and female subject reported to deputies that they awoke to a fire outside their camper. The reporting parties also stated their vehicle had been stolen.
Approximately two hours later a Texas County deputy located the vehicle traveling on Mt. Olive Rd. and initiated a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Jacob Murphy. Murphy was arrested and transported to the Texas County Jail.
Asst. Texas County Prosecuting Attorney Jason Macpherson charged Jacob L. Murphy, age 23, of Mtn. View with arson first degree and tampering with a motor vehicle. Murphy is held in the Texas County Jail pending $200,000 bond.
The above charges are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
