Domestic Assault/Unlawful Restraint

Domestic Assault/Unlawful Restraint
Sheriff Scott K. Lindsey
On June 2, Texas County deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance on Hwy. 17 near the intersection of Rt. Z in the Houston area. During the investigation a female subject reported arriving at the location for a child custody exchange. An argument developed and a male, later identified as Colt Shelton, removed the key from the ignition of the vehicle operated by the female subject to prevent her from leaving. A physical altercation occurred as the female attempted to retrieve the key and she reported Shelton grabbed her by the throat. Colt Shelton was arrested and transported to the Texas County Jail.
Asst. Texas County Prosecuting Attorney Jason Macpherson charged Colt E. Shelton, age 31, of Bucyrus, with Domestic Assault Second Degree, and Kidnapping Second Degree by restraining another unlawfully without consent as to interfere substantially with their liberty, exposing a person to risk of serious physical injury. Shelton is held in the Texas County Jail pending $250,000 bond.
The above charges are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
