Licking Downtown Inc. hosted a Christmas in July bazaar at the Licking Mill Saturday. Vendors sold their Christmas and other wares for early holiday shopping or for anytime shopping. Food vendors offered all the favorites, funnel cakes, kettle corn, pork rinds, snow cones and more. Suzie Blackburn offered mill tours and Rick Mansfield and Blackburn did some storytelling in the afternoon.

A special guest at the event was Summer Santa. Santa explained that, due to the weather, he was unable to wear his customary suit. Also, summer brought on some seasonal weight loss, but, he explained, he would be able to restore his normal plump, jolly figure with some sucker fish fries on the Current River over the next few months. Santa posed for pictures with children and adults.
At five o’clock, the vendors packed up and an auction was held, with Rick Mansfield and Will Jett calling for bids.

Will Jett and auction helpers sell tutus to raise funds for maintenance of the mill.
The proceeds will go to the restoration of the mill, and items auctioned were donated by vendors and by the prisoners at SCCC.
For those not exhausted by the day’s events, the evening ended with a movie shown on the north side of the mill. “It’s a Wonderful Life” fit the theme of the day and was enjoyed with popcorn and soda from lawn chairs and blankets in the cool evening air.
