R.V.F.D. to host 6th Festival of Yesteryear Sept. 14

Submitted

Great news! Raymondville’s Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting their 6th Festival of Yesteryear. Come join them Saturday, Sept. 14 from 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. at the Raymondville Fairgrounds for a good time, relaxation, fellowship, family fun, contests, music, delicious foods, crafts, games and demonstrations.
The Children’s Costume Contest for infants to 12-years will be held at 11 a.m. Each child is to be dressed reflecting the dress of the 1800s era. Boys will be judged separately from the girls. The four age group categories are infants to 4-years; 5 – 7-years; 8 – 10-years and 11 – 12-years.
At 2 p.m. the Pie Baking Contest judging will take place. The pies should be baked from scratch with fruit fillings. Following the pie judging there will be a pie auction with the proceeds going to R.V.F.D.
Two new contests have been added to the festivities. As a shout out to all those people whose specialty is making delicious and savory pickles, one new addition is the Pickle Contest. This contest has two categories: first, dill pickles and sour pickles, and the second category is Bread and Butter pickles and sweet pickles. Each category will be judged separately. Judging will be held at 1 p.m.
The second new contest is just for the men folk, to let you know you haven’t been forgotten. The three categories are Mustache Contest, Beard Contest and Full Facial Hair Contest. So men, let that mustache, beard and facial hair grow, shape it, condition it, groom it and come proudly sporting it. Judging will be held at 4 p.m.
There is no entry fee to enter any of the contests. Each contest will pay first, second and third place winners cash prizes, ribbons and bragging rights.
