Leon “Lonnie” Paul Travis, age 81, son of Ernest and Clara (Shelley) Travis was born June 13, 1938 in Rialto, Calif. He passed away August 3, 2019 at his Houston, Mo. home. Lonnie was the youngest of nine children.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Diane, of the home; a brother, Frank and wife, Martha of Rosemead, Calif.; his children, Chip and Stephany of Houston, Shelly and Jeff of Yucaipa, Calif., Marcie and Dennis of Bucyrus and Mark and Stella of Devine, Texas; his extra children, Sandy of Houston; Travis and Jimmy of Foley, Ala.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Lonnie grew up in Rialto, Calif. and held various jobs until he was hired on at Sanber Highway Department and retired from there. His family moved to Bucyrus, Mo. in 1981 on a small farm and opened the Triangle T Arena, where many kids learned to rope, ride and train horses. He loved horses and mules, and trained many of them. He loved to rodeo in his younger years in California, and was on the San Bernardino County Calif. search and rescue team. He went on wild Burro recovery missions, where he calmed and trained them. He enjoyed riding his mules, and horses in parades, and to shows where he attained many trophies. This brought him much joy in his life.
When Lonnie came to Texas County he helped his neighbors and many became his dear friends. Lonnie loved his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids, his friends whom he called his running buddies.
He will be missed by his family and friends. To us Lonnie will always be remembered as “Big Daddy Supreme, the Poor Horse Dream” etc.
