Saturday’s weather was chilly but 25 young hunters from the area braved the cold to hunt squirrels in the second annual Bushy Tail Squirrel Hunt. Eleven sponsors offered a $1 bounty per squirrel and $1150 was paid out to the youngsters for their 115 squirrels.
This year the heaviest limit (10) was 17 lbs. 3 oz. by Levi Garrett of Licking. There was a tie for the heaviest squirrel between Logan Stine and Bree Gaghyam, both with 3 lbs. 11 oz. squirrels.
The squirrel hunt included adults this year, but they did not receive a bounty for their squirrels. A raffle was held, with Alex Buckner winning a gun, Wayne Buckner a tumbler, and Chris Storm a t-shirt. The youth hunters received a ticket for entering the hunt and another ticket for each squirrel, to be entered into a gun drawing. Kaden Keller’s ticket was drawn for the youth shotgun.
Sponsors this year included: Coverdell Auto Glass, Ed Green Realty, Hood’s Frosty Treat, D&C Storm Farms, Big Country 99.3, Bullseye Pawn Shop, Clouse Trucking, Living the Dream Realty, Gifford Farms & Trucking, Danny Wade, and S&S Logging.
