October 4, what a beautiful day to go the park, and Montauk was the place to be. The Current River Cruisers and Montauk State Park held a fundraiser car show to benefit the American Heart Association.  The Rose Holland Derby was held on Oct. 5, so the park was packed with car enthusiasts, fishermen, campers, and hungry people at the lodge.
This was a fundraiser, so donations were accepted for the entry fee for the car show and the delicious food from the car show was also sold on a donation basis. There was a 50/50 drawing and a silent auction. All the proceeds went to the American Heart Association.
There were probably close to 75 entries in the show, with cars, trucks and motorcycles. People of all ages enjoyed the show and the weather was perfect for a fun family night. There were seven trophies to be awarded…The Longest Distance Traveled went to Russ Hairen of St. Louis with his 1925 T-bracket, Best Motorcycle went to Allene Mundy of Licking with her 1991 Honda Trike, Best Rat Rod went to Jerry Wofford of Salem with his 1948 pickup, Best Mopar (Dodge) went to Tony Todaro of Licking with his 1965 Dart, Best GM went to Jack Mundy of Licking with his 1978 Corvette, Best Ford went to Ron and Reba Fleming of Houston with their 1956 Ford, and Best Other Makes (not a car from top three American manufacturers) went to Andrea Faber of Licking with her 1971 VW Super Beetle. The biggest winner of all was the American Heart Association; a total of $1000 was raised.
All in all it was an awesome day, with beautiful weather, a great crowd, gorgeous cars, wonderful people and a fantastic time. Thanks to all who came and made it such a success for everyone, especially for the American Heart Association.
