Elder Abuse/Neglect Investigation

Sheriff Scott K. Lindsey

On May 22, Texas County deputies were dispatched to Texas County Memorial Hospital by Texas County Coroner Marie Lasater in reference to the death of an elderly female. Coroner Lasater reported concerns to deputies about the conditions in which the deceased, Kathleen C. Davis, age 91 of Licking, had been living prior to her arrival at TCMH. A criminal investigation was opened, and it was discovered that Kathleen lived with and was cared for by her daughter, Patricia Davis.
During the investigation deputies discovered that Kathleen was left lying in the floor for several weeks after a fall, exposing her to malnutrition, dehydration, sepsis and other untreated medical conditions. Deputies conducted a lengthy investigation and presented findings to the Texas County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. On October 16, the prosecuting attorney sought and received an arrest warrant charging Patricia Davis in connection with the death of her mother.
On October 17, Texas County deputies arrested Patricia A. Davis, age 67 of Licking. Texas County Asst. Prosecuting Attorney Jason Macpherson charged Davis with Involuntary Manslaughter, Assault 2nd Degree, and Abuse of an elderly, disabled or vulnerable person.  Davis was transported to the Texas County Jail and held pending $500,000 bond.
The above charges are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
