Tuesday, Oct. 22, the Lady ‘Cats traveled to Laquey to compete in the Frisco League Junior High Basketball Tournament. In first round action the Lady Wildcats took on the Lady Hornets on their home court. First game nerves were definitely prevalent as the ladies are starting their season and the other teams were ending theirs, but the Wildcats put together three of four quarters, giving them a chance to pick up the win. In the fourth quarter, the ‘Cats stayed strong and took a six point lead into the last three minutes of the game. Turnovers by the ‘Cats gave the Lady Hornets the ball, and they took advantage and tied the game in the final minute and half. Two missed free throws allowed possession of the ball back to the Hornets, who scored a three point field goal. With under a minute to go, Hannah Medlock was fouled on a three point attempt, giving her the chance to tie the game from the free throw line. Making one brought the ladies to within two. A steal, missed shot being fouled, put Makenna Skidmore on the free throw line. She was able to make one of the two. Applying full court pressure, the ‘Cats couldn’t recover the ball and took the loss 20-19.
Thursday, Oct. 24, the Lady ‘Cats returned to Laquey to take on the Richland Bears. This night seemed to be deja vu of opening night of the young season. ‘Cats hung tight three of four quarters, going into the last two and half minutes with a five point lead, only to allow the Bears to tie the game, and again go ahead by three with 30 seconds left in the game. The outcome was a bit different as Medlock scored a layup and Skidmore connected on two free throws to take the one point lead and win, 33-32.
In the consolation game on Saturday, Oct. 26, the Lady ‘Cats fell to the Stoutland Tigers, 33-23. A rough first quarter turned into the deciding factor of the game. At the end of the first, score was 33-23 Tigers.  The Lady ‘Cats fought hard to get back into the game, coming within six the final quarter. Foul trouble and forced shots allowed the Tigers to go back ahead by 10 and hold onto the win. Other eighth grade team members scoring and helping the team out are Finley Sullins, Riley Moloney, Ryleigh Barton, Gracie Berriault, Jamie Fike and Gracie Hunter.

Seventh grade girls start strong

The seventh grade Lady ’Cat basketball team steamrolled right thru their first Frisco League Tournament. On Oct. 25, the young group took on the Newburg Wolves in their first round of the B division of the Junior High Tournament held at Laquey. With full court pressure, the ‘Cats were able to take a demanding 15-0 lead and never look back. The ladies were impressive not only with their Wildcat pressure, but also their offensive attack throughout the game, adding to their lead and pulling out the win, 36-8. Saturday, Oct. 26, the Lady ‘Cats turned in another impressive performance on night two, bringing home the championship win, 37-6, over the Tigers. Once again, demanding pressure defense and constant attack to the basket allowed all eight players to get into the scoring column. Team members include: Aubrey Gorman, Kinley Keaton, Halee Clayton, Allie Medlock, Allie Hock, Linzie Wallace, Zoey Dawson, and Ralee Clayton. Congratulations girls!
