Thursday, Sept. 26 was pack-the-gym night for the Licking-Plato volleyball match. Wildcat fans turned out in large numbers to cheer their home team, and Plato brought a pep bus full of supporters as well.
The junior varsity Lady ‘Cats started the evening and overcame the Plato Lady Eagles in two straight sets, 25-9 and 25-12.
Licking jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set, with Plato only able to keep the serve once, when down 22-6.      The Lady Wildcats allowed three before regaining control, and rolling to a final 25-9 score. Numerous aces, with Abigail Sullins serving several, helped keep the momentum going for the home team.
In the beginning of the second set, it looked like Plato was determined to take the match to three. The Lady Eagles were the ones to jump out to a four point lead and stayed in the lead for several points. Coach Kaitlyn Baker called time-out when the home team was down 7-10, and was able to settle her team and switch the momentum. The Lady ‘Cats went on a roll and outscored Plato 18-2 for the remainder of the set, ending with a 25-12 score.

The varsity Lady ‘Cats had no apparent nervousness going up against their former coach, Coach Angela Barton, defeating her team in two sets. Licking Head Coach Ashley Martin led her team to a lop-sided 25-6 win in the first set, with the Plato Lady Eagles unable to keep the serve.
Plato fared slightly better in the second set, leading by one point on two occasions early on. But the Lady ‘Cats wouldn’t stay down and after tying the game 5-5, took the lead and kept it. They took the set, 25-13, to win the varsity match. The hometown fans weren’t disappointed as the Lady ‘Cats displayed their skills, serving aces, blocking at the net and sending some kills smoking past the defenders across the net. Licking increased their record to 12-2 with the win.
On Tuesday night, Sept. 23, the Lady Wildcats traveled to St. James to take on the Lady Tigers. Licking added to their winning record with a two-set win over St. James.
