PCR3 Cardinals kick off 7th/8th basketball

The Phelps County R-III Cardinals kicked off their junior high season with a home game against Swedeborg Monday night, Oct. 21. They started off on the right foot, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams winning.
The Cardinals overpowered Swedeborg 32-12. Wyatt Wilson had a standout night with 23 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists and 2 blocks. A team of Cardinals backed him up, with seven other players racking up stats offensively and defensively.
The Lady Cardinals also put up a lopsided score, winning 18-2. Madison Hamby and Lindsey Lucas led scoring with 9 and 6 points respectively. Tessa Lucas added two and Sydney Maisch one. Emily Blake kicked in 2 rebounds, a steal and 2 assists.
This Monday, PCR3 faced a tougher opponent in the Newburg Wolves. The Wolves clipped the wings of the Cardinals, winning 49-20 in the A game. Wyatt Wilson, JD Fox, Riley Edgar and Ryan Hunter chipped in points and Gavin Robbins, Rian Young, Kyatin Tennyson and Daniel Rodriguez helped out with rebounds and steals. PCR3 won the B game 6-3, with Gavin Robbins scoring 2 points and JD Fox scoring 4 points.
The Lady Cardinals were shown no mercy by the Lady Wolves, who amassed 71 points to the Lady Cardinals’ 6.
