On Sept. 11, a Texas County deputy
received a report of a stolen firearm at a residence on Route BB in the Licking
area. The firearm was located at a pawn shop in Houston and the deputy
initiated an investigation. On Sept. 25 the deputy conducted a search of a
residence in Licking that led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia and a
substance that is believed to be methamphetamine. A 13-year-old juvenile female
at the residence also stated the suspect, later identified as Johnathan D.
Cook, had sexual intercourse with her. Cook was located and admitted to trading
the firearm for methamphetamine and having sexual contact with the juvenile.
Johnathan D. Cook, age 17, of
Success, was arrested and transported to the Texas County Jail. Cook was charged with Statutory Rape First
Degree, Stealing a Firearm, and Possession of a Controlled Substance by Asst.
Texas County Prosecuting Attorney Jason Macpherson. Cook is being held pending
$150,000 bond.
The above charges are mere
accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges
must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to
determine guilt or innocence.
