High School’s varsity volleyball team followed up a loss to Rolla last Monday with
a week of three wins. Steelville fell to the Lady ‘Cats on Tuesday, Oct. 1, and
Conway was next, in a home game on Oct. 3. This week started out on the right
note for the Lady ‘Cats as well, with a win in two sets over the Dixon Lady
Bulldogs.
Licking
started with the serve and jumped to a 1-0 lead before losing the serve to
Dixon. The Lady Bulldogs were unable to keep the serve, and Kamryn Barnes took
charge for Licking, with 10 serves for nine consecutive points, running the
score up to 11-1 before the Lady Bulldogs were able to regain the serve. But it
was short-lived, and Abagail Moncrief got the serve back at 12-3. The Lady
‘Cats kept Moncrief busy serving through the rest of the set, winning 25-3,
with the final point an Ace.
In the
second set, Dixon served for the first point, then Licking took over and Abby
Cole served for 15 consecutive points, with eight aces, before Dixon was able
to score again. But they only added one point, to make the score 17-2, before
Licking took over again. Maddy Cole added a couple of aces during her 6 serves,
then the Lady ‘Cats let up on their intensity a little. Dixon and Licking
exchanged points, then Dixon added three points, including an ace, before the
Lady ‘Cats finished the set, with Ashley Creek serving an Ace to end the match
and set, 25-6.
The
Junior Varsity Lady Cats had a successful match against Dixon also. The JV Lady
‘Cats overpowered the Lady Bulldogs in two sets, 25-11 and 25-15.
Tuesday
night, Licking is scheduled to play Summersville at home. Saturday, the LHS
Classic volleyball tournament promises to showcase local talent in a packed day
of games at both the high school gym and the FEMA gym.
