Wednesday, Nov. 20, the Licking Junior High teams traveled to Mtn. Grove for their final round of the Mtn. Grove Tournament. The eighth grade girls pulled out a victory over the host Mtn. Grove Panthers to bring home the consolation plaque. A game that started very slow in the first half, picked up pace in the second for the ‘Cats 36-24 win.
The week started Monday, Nov. 18 with a home game against the Mustangs from Green Forest. The Lady ‘Cats dominated the game with their rebounding and defense as well as their speed on the fast breaks for a 53-12 victory.
On Tuesday, Nov. 19, the ‘Cats traveled to Mtn. View-Liberty to take on the Lady Eagles. These two teams have been competitive the last several years with each team in the win column. This night was no different as the first quarter was tight and defense stood their ground for both teams. First quarter score 5-4. In the second quarter, the Eagles picked up some offensive rebounds, creating a point spread that the ‘Cats could not overcome, taking the loss 33-27.

The 7th grade girls played Mtn. View-Liberty back-to-back on Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 19 and 20. The regular season match-up on Wednesday was a hard fought victory for the Lady ‘Cats on Mtn. View-Liberty’s home court. The game was close throughout, with Licking’s tough man-to-man defense allowing the Lady ‘Cats to edge out the Eagles, 24-22. Aubrey Gorman and Halee Clayton worked hard on defense to shut down one of the better guards the 7th grade girls have faced this season, while the rest of the team did their part with help defense and rebounding. Allie Hock led the way offensively, scoring eight points, while Linzie Wallace had five and Gorman and Kinley Keaton both added four points.
The Lady ‘Cats advanced to the championship game of the Mtn. Grove tournament by defeating Mtn. Grove on Nov. 14, which led to another game against Mtn. View Liberty on Wednesday for first place. That game was another tough, physical match-up where defense was the key to victory; unfortunately, Mtn. View-Liberty’s 2-3 defense was able to hold the Lady ‘Cats to a season low of 19 points. Mtn. View-Liberty scored 24 points for the win. Ralee Clayton and Keaton had five points, Gorman scored four, Wallace had three, and Hock added two.
