Obituary - Carl B. Butner, Sr.
Carl
B. Butner, Sr., 92, of Licking passed away November 9, 2019 in Springfield, Mo.
Born on November 7, 2019 in Aronda, N.C., Carl was the son of Charles Benjamin
and Bertha Ella (Chambers) Butner.
Carl
attended King Grade School, City View until 7th grade and graduated from
Kernersville High School in 1946. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December
1, 1945. Carl retired on December 31, 1965 from the United States Air Force as
a Master Sergeant. Carl received a Good Conduct Medal, National Defense WWII
Occupation Medal, Berlin Air Lift Medal and European Theater Medal. Carl
attended Strayers Business College in Washington DC from 1967-1968.
Carl
was a Boy Scouts Committee Member and coached Little League Baseball. He was a
lifelong member of the American Legion and VFW. Carl loved the St. Louis
Cardinals, tent camping with his family and league bowling.
Carl
loved to travel. During his second Germany tour he went to Lichtenstein, Paris,
France and Luxenberg in Germany and Holland. He went to the top of the Eiffel
Tower and to the Arch de Triumph. He became a Christian at 1940 at a tent
revival and was baptized in a river. Carl attended Choir Bells United Methodist
Church in Camp Springs, Md. He attended the Licking United Methodist
Church.
Carl
is survived by his son; Carl Butner Jr. (wife, Sheila); daughter, Carolyn B.
Wylie (husband, Joe); grandchildren, Carl B. Butner III and Yvette Rochefort;
and great grandson, Carl B. Butner IV. He is preceded in death by his wives;
Annemarie, Fern and Eula; son, Charles Butner; daughter, Shirley Butner; three
sisters and five brothers.
Funeral
services for Carl will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at
Fox Funeral Home, 128 S. Main St., in Licking with Rev. Gary Carter officiating.
A visitation will be held thirty minutes prior to the service at 10:30 a.m.
Interment with Military Honors will follow at Williams Cemetery. Pallbearers
will be Carl Butner Jr., Carl Butner III, Josh Wantland and Michael Lane. Arrangements
