The Lady Wildcats traveled to Richland Jan. 13 to face the 11-2 Lady Bears for a rematch of the Frisco League Tournament Championship. Two quick threes by Karlee Holland and a put-back from Abby Moncrief had the Lady Wildcats up early but the tide turned after a Richland timeout. The Lady Bears would start to heat up from three-point range and led 15-14 after one quarter. The second quarter saw Richland continue their lights-out shooting making not one, not two, but eight three-pointers in a row without missing. Licking managed to stay close due to Karlee Holland’s 16 points in the quarter and the Lady ‘Cats trailed 39-37 in a high scoring affair.  Richland would continue their unbelievable shooting early in the third, nailing two more threes to start the quarter. Anna Sullins did her best to keep it close, scoring six and grabbing several rebounds, but the Lady Bears still led 55 to 53 after the third. The fourth quarter was chaotic to say the least. Licking would take the lead only to see Richland go to the free throw line 23 times in the quarter. Also Licking wasn’t fouling due to the close score, so shooting 23 free throws in a quarter is unheard of. A pivotal blown charge call followed by a technical foul on Coach Rissler allowed the hometown Bears to take the lead for good and get a 73-69 Frisco League win. The loss was the first for Licking since December 2016.
Karlee Holland led the way with 25 points, 8 assists, 7 steals and 5 rebounds. Anna Sullins finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds, Abby Moncrief recorded a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Abbie Sullins chipped in 12 points, Kylie Taylor 5 points and 7 assists, Winter Murray 2 points, Maci Sparks 3 points.
“Richland shot unbelievable tonight and we were still in a position to win until the end. To say I’m frustrated with the way the game ended would be an understatement but we have to move on and control the things we can control.”  Coach Rissler
