Wildcat basketball

By Coach Jess Ross

The Wildcat Boys basketball team was busy over the break playing in the Cabool Holliday Tournament. After defeating Winona in the first round by a score of 66-39, the second and third day of the tournament didn’t fare as well. The team lost to Lesterville 47-70 and then Norwood 46-61.
At this point with our team we are trying to stay focused on getting better each day and becoming a better team. Having three starters that have never before played high school basketball makes it difficult at times but the men are beginning to see the necessity of good teammates and remain positive. It would be easy for young men to give in, but that’s not what we preach or what we are about. The adversity they face now will reap benefits as the season progresses and they adjust to one another and to the change in the physicality and speed of the game. We have bounced back and really had some good practices after the tournament. We look forward to coming back a better team with a more competitive edge.
Players of the week were JB Huff and Conner McLeod. These two young men have begun to understand their roles and expectations more every day. They are competing in practice and becoming more valuable in games as the season moves forward. Their value through their efforts and improvement each week keeps growing. It’s fun as a coach to watch them grow into better players and young men.
