Wildcat Basketball season review

Coach Jess Ross

The Licking Wildcat men’s basketball team finished up their season on Monday, Feb, 24, with a loss in district play to the number four seed Willow Springs Bears. Finishing the season 12-14 was not on the list of things to do this year, but we did grow as a team and expect to see marked growth into next season. The inexperience of varsity-level players will begin to fade and be replaced with players that were put in tough situations as freshmen or players with very little experience who were forced to gain the experience on the fly.
The team finished the Frisco League schedule with a win over Plato on Feb. 18, completing the season with a 6-2 conference record. The two losses were to Iberia by 10 and to Richland by 9 points.
As a team we always talk about fixing the things you can fix or changing things you need to change and not worrying about the things you can’t. While we struggled with this at times, our players continued to get better throughout the season and improved especially in the mental aspect of the game. Seth Farris and Blake Payne were our lone seniors and they will be missed, but we always want to be moving forward. With an abundance of underclassman moving into and continuing on with their roles, we look to be a force in the Frisco League in the upcoming season.

We are looking forward to getting the off-season started and to begin preparing for next season, becoming a stronger, smarter, more skilled and disciplined team. Can’t wait!
