A Letter from Superintendent Wright

In three weeks time, COVID-19 has changed the way staff members at Licking R-VIII School District, and public educators as a whole, operate. Staff members and parents have partnered to share ideas and continue education for the children of our community. Here are some announcements regarding upcoming events....
• Internet access continues to be available in the High School parking lot for students who do not have access to internet at home.
• Homework packets have been made available to all students and many packets have been delivered to homes.
• The final round of homework will be available April 14 in the lunch line. Deliveries will follow for those not picked-up.
• Packets may be returned in the lunch line, in locked drop boxes outside the school offices, or by mail. Many teachers are also collecting work electronically through platforms such as Remind, Teams and Class Dojo.
• Spring Picture Packets will be shipping to us this week and will be sorted. We plan for them to be available in the April 21 lunch line. Phone calls will be made to those with unclaimed packets.
• Kindergarten Screenings will be delayed to the start of the 2020-2021 school year. Kindergarten Registration packets will be available in the lunch line, on our district website, www.licking.k12.mo.us, and/or by postal mail. Families with questions regarding 2020-2021 kindergarten should email Mrs. Amber Stephens at astephens@licking.k12.mo.us.
• Families should continue to monitor The Licking News and the district Facebook page for important updates.
This time of year is typically a time to celebrate students completing their grade levels and transitioning to new challenges, and this is especially true for our graduating seniors. We regret that we are not able to highlight the successes of our graduates in a traditional way, but our staff has decided on alternatives to recognize our students on their well-deserved accomplishments. Here are some of our alternative plans....
• Athletic Awards will be shared in The Licking News and on the district Facebook page. Mrs. Lewis will be making contact with award recipients.
• A Graduation Parade is being planned for May 17. Detailed letters are being mailed to graduating seniors this week. More information will be available in The Licking News and on the district Facebook page next week.
We extend our sincere appreciation to our community for their support during this unprecedented time. Each of our staff members send warm regards to our students and anxiously anticipate their return. Until that time, distance learning continues, and contact information is available on the district homepage.
Your partner in education,
Cristina Wright, Superintendent
