Licking will continue its annual Independence Day celebration this year! The event is scheduled for Thursday, July 2. “Due to scheduling difficulties with the pyrotechnician, it could not be held on the Fourth of July, however the fireworks display will go on, July 2,” says coordinator, Gary Hassell.
The festivities will begin with a fundraising Corn Hole Tournament sponsored by the Licking Wildcat Travel Club, starting with warm-ups at 4 p.m. at Deer Lick Park.
G-ma Pam’s Rack Pack will be offering a full meal deal.
A parade will take place at 6 p.m. on the Main Street route.
Following the parade, there will be entertainment, with Michael Florence performing from 6:30 – 9 p.m. at Deer Lick Park. Florence’s musical talent includes Elvis and Johnny Cash impersonations.
Fireworks will burst out in display in the park at 9:15 p.m., concluding the evening.
Hassell is looking for interested vendors, food and otherwise, to participate this year.
Donations for this event are needed. All businesses and personal donations will be greatly appreciated to make this event spectacular. It will be the first community-wide celebration to be held this year, due to the “Stay at Home” order and the resulting uncertainty in scheduling other activities which are normally held in Licking. Hassell will not be calling on local businesses for donations and has requested that donations be dropped off at Licking City Hall, Rinne’s Fast & Friendly or mailed to: Gary Hassell, P.O. Box 425, Licking, MO 65542. Please donate.
Hassell, who has generously coordinated this event with his time and talent for the past several years, will be stepping down as coordinator after the 2020 celebration. Someone will be needed to take over the Fourth of July celebration beginning with the 2021-year. All interested parties can contact Hassell.
