A small patch of prairie is located at George O. White Nursery on the road to the lake, located across Shafer Road from the Nursery offices.  It was planted years ago and had fallen to neglect until last year when it was mowed. Earlier this spring it was brush hogged and, with the rain and heat of the past week, it burst into beautiful bloom.
The red flowers are Indian paintbrush, the yellow buttercups are from the Coreopsis family, and the white flowers of Obedient plants tower above.  Prairie grasses include Indian Grass and Big Blue. Forest Nursery Supervisor Mike Fiaoni expects Rattlesnake Master, a tall, stocky plant, to emerge later in the season.

The light of late afternoon causes a mirror-like reflection of the surrounding forest on the Nursery lake. Limits for anglers and hours are posted at one of the parking areas. There is no limit on photos or just enjoying the beautiful view.
