The Licking Christian Church hosted a Back to School Picnic, Backpack Giveaway and Pool Party on Sunday.

Everyone was invited to the outreach event including all Licking R-VIII families; over 150 people attended. The evening began with a picnic and playground fun at Deer Lick Park and pavilion. Licking Christian Church members served hamburgers, hot dogs, homemade coleslaw and drinks.

Kids in our community received free backpacks for their return to school, with close to 100 being distributed.

Following the picnic, attendees were welcomed to a Swim Party that was held at the Licking Aquatic Center from 6 to 8 p.m.

“I’m glad that we could help as an asset to the community; that was our main goal,” said Georgia Merrick, coordinator of the festivities. She also extended her thanks to all who helped make it a success.
