At least 48 vehicles lined up at Deerlick Park Saturday, forming a parade that would travel through Houston and Cabool to Mtn. Grove before returning to Licking. The banners and blue line flags demonstrated the purpose for the event – to support law enforcement.
“With all the negativity against law enforcement, I just felt we needed to show our support,” said organizer Laura Hughes. Hughes’ husband is Cabool Police Dept. Sgt. Tony Hughes.
Laura Hughes created a Facebook event initially, and reports she wasn’t sure how it would be received. She was very pleased when 225 people responded they were interested or attending.
Along the route, well-wishers showed their support, flying flags and waving to “Back the Blue.” More vehicles joined in Houston and Cabool, and some were unable to travel the entire route; an estimated number of 60 participated in the parade at some point.
