Chamber to sponsor Barrel Racing event

By Shari Harris, Publisher

The Licking Chamber of Commerce met Thursday, Aug. 6, at Fox Fire Station. Although the 2020 Licking Rodeo has been canceled, the Chamber will be sponsoring a National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) event on August 22 and 23. Events will include Peewee, Open, Youth and Poles.

There is no fee to see the show and concessions will be open. Warmups will be Saturday at 5 p.m., with racing beginning at 7 p.m. Warmups will begin at 12 p.m. on Sunday with racing beginning at 2 p.m.

Other Chamber business included the cancellation of the 2020 Mule Show.

The Toy Run is still scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3. The absence of the toys typically gathered during the Cruise-Ins at Sonic will make the Toy Run even more important this year.

The Downtown Christmas event and parade are planned for the first Saturday in December.

Roy and Shellie Ogden shared information about their upcoming event. The Ogdens are hosting a Licking FFA fundraiser 1/4-mile north of Licking on Shafer Road on Sept. 19. The 1st Annual Licking Truck & Tractor Pulls will be a Mid-Missouri Truck & Tractor Pulling Association (MMTTPA) event.  No coolers or food will be allowed, but hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, candy, funnel cakes and drinks will be sold. Limited bleacher seating is available, or space will be available to bring your lawn chairs. Handicapped parking will also be available. There will be a fee of $5 for ages 7-15, $10 for 16 and older, with children 6 and under given free admission.
