Obituary – Vera E. Lake

Vera Elizabeth Lake, 100, of Woodstock, Ga., formerly of Licking, Mo., passed away November 29, 2020. Vera was born on August 15, 1920, to Oren Pearl and Edith (Coleman) Moutray in Steelville, Mo.

Vera married Billy Roland Lake on August 18, 1947. She owned and operated her own salon, and worked as a beautician from her home in St. Louis. Vera and Billy retired to Licking in the early 1970s. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for thirty years. Vera enjoyed reading and was a member of a women’s quilting group. She was an avid sports fan; she loved baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals. Vera moved to Georgia 10 years ago to be closer to family.

Vera is survived by her children, Bruce Roland Lake (Lynda) of Woodstock, Ga., Cynthia Lake Ponce (Stan) of Lexington, Va., and Ronald Bill Lake (Kristy) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and grandchildren, Bree Lake, Erin Lake, Shiloh Kestel, Jordan Kestel, Micah Kestel, William Lake and Alexanne Lake. She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Lake; parents, Oren Pearl Moutray and Edith Moutray; and siblings, Donald Moutray, Anson Moutray, Marguerite Broughton, Wendell Moutray, Vida Foreman and Otho Moutray.

A visitation was held on Friday, December 4, 2020, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Fox Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Brother Robert Gifford Officiating. Interment followed at Moutray Cemetery in rural Steelville. Memorial contributions in Vera’s name may be made to the First Baptist Church in Licking. Local arrangements entrusted to Fox Funeral Home.
