Licking Librarian Lee Ann Akins was busy registering children, ages three to 12, on Thursday, for the library’s 2023 Summer Reading Program. Librarian Brandi Smith treated the kids to buttered popcorn as they enjoyed a movie, “Magic School Bus-Space Adventure,” while adults completed the paperwork.

The theme for the Texas County Library program that runs from June 1 to July 20, is “All Together Now: Building a Community with Kindness.” The focus is that the child is learning, participating and growing.

Forty-four children have signed up for the program, and 27 were present to receive their information bags the first day.

The program encourages not only reading and library events, but also adult participation in helping children do acts of kindness, as well as creative endeavors to complete the three levels of requirements. Requirements and suggestions were included in age appropriate packets that are sent home. Prizes are awarded as levels are completed.

Presenters have been invited for the weekly Thursday library events providing learning and participation activities that range from animals, magic, law enforcement, electricity and food. Story Walks will be held on Tuesdays at Old City Park in Licking.
