Sex offender arrest

LICKING, Mo. (June 21, 2023) – On June 20, 2023, it was reported to the Licking Police Department that Carey Atwood had been residing in the Hickory Manor nursing home since March 9, 2023. It was advised that Atwood was a registered sex offender, out of the state of Arkansas, and he had failed to register in the state of Missouri as a sex offender.
After further investigation, it was verified Atwood is a Level 4 Offender – Sexually Dangerous Person, in the state of Arkansas, which stemmed from a conviction on February 27, 2003, for Sexual Assault – 2nd Degree, in Baxter County Circuit Court, Mountain Home, Arkansas. It was also verified Atwood had not registered with the Texas County Sheriff’s Department as a Sex Offender.
A Probable Cause Statement has been sent to the Texas County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office seeking the following charges:
Carey Lee Atwood, age 69, of Licking, Mo., Failure to Register as Sex Offender – Underlying Offense Felony Involving Child <14 – Class D Felony.
The above information is just a mere accusation and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of any charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
